Denver police shot and killed a 16-year-old girl who allegedly struck and injured an officer with a stolen car early Monday.

Authorities did not identify the teen who was shot, but friends identified her as Jessica Hernandez, Fox News reports.

Police said that one officer was responding to a call for a suspicious vehicle in an alley at around 6:30 a.m. local time. A second officer arrived after it was determined that the car had been stolen. In a statement, police said the two officers then "approached the vehicle on foot when the driver drove the car into one of the officers."

White said both officers then opened fire. The officer hit by the car was taken to a hospital with a leg injury.
