The man who shot and killed Officer Travis Murphy from the shadows as Murphy responded to a call in Phoenix almost six years ago was sentenced to life in prison without parole, reports the Arizona Republic.
The sentence was handed down Friday to Danny Ledezma Martinez by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Teresa Sanders after an emotional three-hour hearing.
Police officers and family members fought tears, anger, and frustration as they told the court why Martinez should receive the maximum sentence allowed, which was life in prison without parole.
Officer Travis Murphy's killer got a life sentence without parole.
Murphy, 29, was killed on May 26, 2010, after he responded to calls of a suspicious person near 19th Avenue and Indian School Road. Murphy died hours later from multiple gunshot wounds, leaving behind a wife, a 2-year-old girl, and newborn baby boy.
