The officers exchanged gunfire with 19-year-old Damarius Butts who had just robbed a 7-Eleven store of beer and doughnuts. Butts was shot dead, and two others - Butt's 17-year-old sister, and a 19-year-old male friend - who are suspected as accomplices in the robbery, were arrested.
Officer Hudson Kang suffered wounds to his face and chest and remains at Harborview Medical Center in serious but stable condition, Harborview said Friday night.

"Thankfully, we didn’t lose any of our officers [in this incident] but it was a very close call," said O'Toole.
