Norfolk (VA) police officers, dispatchers, call takers, and firefighters responded to the "lip-sync challenge" on Monday. They uploaded a video to Facebook after being called to the challenge by Corinth PD in Texas.

Norfolk Police Department spokesman William Pickering told the Virginia Pilot, that upon hearing of the gauntlet being thrown down to make a video of one or more officers pretending to sing a popular song, he said to his colleagues in the public information office, "All right, we know what we’ve got to do now."

Pickering approached Officer Christopher Taveras to be the lead in what would be a very involved video with no cuts, no edits.

The group performed "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars. By Tuesday afternoon the video had been viewed more than 15 million times and shared more than 460,000 times on Facebook.

Pickering says that he is most pleased with the reaction from his community as well as across the country.

He told the Pilot that one of his favorite comments has been, "You guys won the Internet."
