Nebraska Official to Police: Crime Database for Work Use Only

Nebraska Crime Commission Executive Director Darrell Fisher has cautioned law enforcement officers in his state to "never use a statewide crime database for anything but law enforcement purposes."

Nebraska Crime Commission Executive Director Darrell Fisher has cautioned law enforcement officers in his state to "never use a statewide crime database for anything but law enforcement purposes," according to the Scottsbluff Star Herald.

The warning came in the wake of a lawsuit alleging that three police officials had "harassed and intimidated two state employees, in part by looking up the workers’ criminal records on the Nebraska Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS)," the Star Herald said.

U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf dismissed the lawsuit last month, but Fisher said the case shows that "we have some things to shore up."
