Chicago police — responding to a call about a man with a gun in the West Garfield Park neighborhood — shot and killed the subject during a foot pursuit on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old man — identified as Terrell Eason — allegedly confronted officers and then fled on foot.
A statement from the Civilian Office of Police Accountability — which investigates shootings by police — said in part, "During the pursuit, officers discharged their firearms. The civilian subsequently died."
The Chicago Tribune reported that records indicate that Eason has a long arrest record. "Most of the charges were drug-related, but in 2011 he was found guilty of aggravated battery to a police office and sentenced to prison," the Tribune said.
