The Orlando police officer critically wounded with a gunshot to his head on June 11 is breathing on his own, according to a report by the Orlando Sentinel.

The shooting of Officer Kevin Valencia began a standoff that ended when the barricaded gunman killed four children before killing himself.

Valencia remains in critical condition, a police spokesperson said.
