Following the deaths by suicide of three Chicago police officers, the department is looking at ways to more successfully address mental and emotional health of its officers.
According to WGN-TV, the department is seeking to increase the number of police chaplains and beef up peer support groups who can help officers cope with the mental and emotional burdens of the job.
The department wants to remove the stigma sometimes attached with an officer seeking assistance.
According to WGN, there are only five therapists to assist 13,500 officers and staff.
