Officer Dennis Small with the Tampa Bay (FL) Police Department is the lead instructor for that agency's Police Athletic League boxing program.
Small tells WFLA-TV that it is "so much more than just gloves and rings and belts."
Smalls is also "instilling kids with discipline, teaching respect, and giving them a desire to succeed," the news station said.
Most of the kids he teaches are from broken homes and living in poverty.
