Easton Jordan—a 6-year-old boy in Buffalo, NY, who suffers from cerebral palsy—recently completed a "walk, run, and roll" fundraiser to benefit the Make Lemon Aide Foundation for Cerebral Palsy. He insisted on doing the walk under his own power, despite the fact that he typically uses a motorized wheelchair to get around when his disease wears him down.
At the June event, little Easton asked his mother to leave his wheelchair at the starting line. He lined up behind all of those running, walking, and using wheelchairs, with only his grit, his walker, and about two dozen loved ones the family calls Team Easton, according to Buffalo News.
Officers Tim Wagner and Joe Donovan flanked little Easton for the duration of the walk as he worked relentlessly to cross the finish line—Easton never asked for his wheelchair.
"In all the years we've been doing this job, nothing has inspired us more than what we saw that day," Officer Wagner told the newspaper.
Easton's parents sought to thank the officers personally late last week, presenting them with plaques including a photo of the two crossing the finish line with their son.
Meanwhile, Officers Wagner and Donovan had bought Easton a police uniform, handcuffs, and police helmet bearing his name—as well as a battery-powered kids motorcycle emblazoned with a likeness of the Buffalo PD insignia.
