Fort Worth Chief to Become Baltimore Commissioner, Sources Say

Baltimore Mayor Catherine E. Pugh said she was still vetting candidates for the city’s next police commissioner and would not confirm claims that she had chosen Fitzgerald.

Fort Worth Police chief Joel Fitzgerald is a contender for Baltimore police chief, the Fort Worth mayor’s office confirmed Friday amid swirling rumors that he had been selected for the post — rumors that took off when Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price told Dallas-area media that it “appears” Fitzgerald had taken the job.

Baltimore Mayor Catherine E. Pugh said she was still vetting candidates for the city’s next police commissioner and would not confirm claims that she had chosen Fitzgerald.

Laken Avonne Rapier, a spokeswoman for Fort Worth Mayor Price, said Fitzgerald has not submitted a letter of resignation or provided a “verbal resignation,” as of Friday morning. Fitzgerald has been in discussions about and interviewed for the Baltimore job, she told the Baltimore Sun.
