California Police Fatally Shoot Suicidal Knife-Wielding Man

Officers with the Redwood City (CA) Police Department confronted by a man wielding a butcher knife on Monday were forced to open fire, fatally wounding him.

According to KTVU News, police responded to a 911 call from a woman who said that her husband was trying to kill himself by slashing his throat and wrists.

Two officers arrived to find the woman in the front yard of the home covered in blood and she directed them to the backyard, but along the side yard they encountered the 33-year-old man with the knife.

The two officers attempted to get the man to drop the knife but he refused and ran at the officers, police report.

One of the officers deployed a TASER, which was ineffective in stopping the man's advancement. The other officer then opened fire.

The man was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.
