The merger of the Cheswick Borough and Springdale Township’s police departments in Pennsylvania will create the Allegheny Valley Regional Police Department—the first such merger in that state in nearly a half decade.
According to CBS News, officers were sworn in following a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by officials from both Springdale Township and Cheswick Borough.
Merging the two departments will reportedly save both communities about $200,000 each per year.
The department has eight officers two full-time and six part-time and will be staffed 24/7.
Other smaller departments in the region are considering joining the regional force.
