A man who reportedly drove a car at civilians and police officers outside Britain's Parliament Building last year has been found guilty and sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 15 years to be served.

According to Reuters, the man—identified as 30-year-old Salih Khater—said the incident was an accident, but the presiding judge found that the offense had a "terrorist connection" and gave Khater a life sentence.

In the August 2018 incident, at least six individuals were injured.

Richard Smith—the head of the Metropolitan Police's Counter-Terrorism Command—said, "This was a man who used his car as a weapon to attempt to kill as many people as possible, spreading fear and terror. It was our view that this attack was carried out with a terrorist purpose and the sentence confirms this."
