An officer with the Littleton (MA) Police Department rescued a dog that fell through the ice on an area lake on Tuesday morning.
The department posted an image on the agency's website showing Officer Brian Casey with the wet—but happy—dog in the back of his patrol vehicle following the incident.
Officer Casey arrived on scene within two minutes of the call and located the dog—Tuukka—in the water about 10 feet from a dock.
Using the equipment at his disposal, Officer Casey fashioned a lasso and was able to safely retrieve Tuukka from the water.
"It took me a couple tries, but I was able to get him," Casey said.
"It was extremely fortunate that Officer Casey was able to get to the scene as quickly as he did and help get Tuukka to safety," Chief Matthew Pinard said in a press release.
Pinard added, "This is a good chance to remind everyone, whether they have two legs or four, that it's still too early in the season to be going out on the ice."
