An officer with the Youngstown (OH) Police Department—a native of Jamaica who had been designated as a permanent resident of the United States—recently was officially sworn in as an American citizen.
According to WKBN-TV, Officer Jason Quarrie took the oath of citizenship and became a U.S. resident on Thursday afternoon.
Several years ago, Quarrie came to the United States for a vacation, and during that time met the woman who would eventually become his wife.
For roughly six years, the 47-year-old officer has been in the United States as a permanent resident, but wanted to become a full citizen in order to be able to participate in all the privileges of being an American.
