A video of the release from a New York hospital of an officer who had been badly injured in a vehicle collision April 2 on Long Island has surfaced on social media, showing the officer being wheeled out of the medical facility to the applause of officers flanking the exit walkway.

Dennis Cavanagh—President of the Suffolk County Police Conference—said in a Facebook post, "As many of you know, recently, a police officer from the Riverhead Police Department was severely injured in a PD-10 motor vehicle crash. Rob Sproston has been recovering at University Hospital at Stonybrook since the incident. The outpouring of support for Rob has been nothing less than remarkable."

Cavanagh continued in the post, "I personally want to thank all departments and others that have taken time out of their busy lives during these most challenging times, donated meals for his family, sat with them at the hospital and made very generous donations to the go fund me page and to accounts set in his name."

Cavanagh said further that his colleagues know "this tough kid has a long way to go."

The post concluded, "To Rob, we are here for you, we know how strong you are and that the toughness you are instilled with as a Police Officer and that 'Ol Marine Corps Spirit' will guide you to recovery. Semper Fi and God Speed my brother. We will always be here for you and your family. Ooo-Raahh!"
