Dozens of police officers from North Dakota gathered outside a hospital in Grand Forks as they anticipated the emergence of a 22-year-old officer with the Grafton Police Department after a weeklong-stay for treatment of a gunshot wound sustained earlier this month.
According to the Grand Forks Herald, Officer Lucas Campoverde was shot in the line of duty in mid-August. He had been in intensive care for nearly two weeks following the shooting but emerged from the entrance to the hospital and stood before a gathering of law enforcement officers who came from all around the region to wish him a speedy recovery.
"I hope to be back on the streets soon," Campoverde said to those present at his release from the hospital.
