Washington Officer Charged with Murder in Fatal 2019 OIS

King County Prosecutor Daniel Satterberg determined that the fatal shooting by Officer Jeff Nelson in 2019 was unjustified.

An officer with the Auburn (WA) Police Department has been charged with murder and assault in the shooting death of a man in 2019.

According to KOMO-TV News, King County Prosecutor Daniel Satterberg determined that the fatal shooting by Officer Jeff Nelson in 2019 was unjustified.

Officer Nelson had responded to a report of a man acting erratically. The deceased subject—later identified as 26-year-old Jesse Sarey—reportedly became combative before the officer drew his sidearm and fired two shots.

Officer Nelson is now charged with second-degree murder and first-degree assault.
