An officer with the Auburn (WA) Police Department has been charged with murder and assault in the shooting death of a man in 2019.
According to KOMO-TV News, King County Prosecutor Daniel Satterberg determined that the fatal shooting by Officer Jeff Nelson in 2019 was unjustified.
Officer Nelson had responded to a report of a man acting erratically. The deceased subject—later identified as 26-year-old Jesse Sarey—reportedly became combative before the officer drew his sidearm and fired two shots.
Officer Nelson is now charged with second-degree murder and first-degree assault.
