An officer with the Delafield (WI) Police Department who was first on the scene of a vehicle fire decided to go above and beyond the call of duty, starting an Internet fundraiser to replace the vehicle recently purchased by the young owner of the destroyed vehicle.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, a young man named Aaron Rodriguez bought a pickup truck for just over $3,000 and was driving from the place of purchase to his home when the vehicle caught fire.

Officer Dan Barber was on the scene quickly, and found several people with fire extinguishers attempting to tamp down the flames.

The vehicle was lost, however.

Then, while off-duty, Barber began to raise money for the young man to purchase a replacement vehicle.  

In less than 48 hours, Barber's online charity site had raised nearly $3,700—slightly more than the replacement cost of the vehicle.
