An officer with the Green Township (OH) Police Department has received the gift of life as a local citizen has donated a kidney to him following an expansive search for a compatible donor.

According to NBC News, Officer Troy Biggs had been diagnosed earlier this year with a life-threatening kidney disease, forcing him to launch a search for a donor.

Biggs was diagnosed with the genetic life-threatening disease in April. One of his sisters also has the disease.

Friends and family started a Facebook page for Biggs, and held fundraisers for the eventuality of a costly transplant surgery.

The donor wishes to remain anonymous.
