Greensboro, NC, police shot and killed a man in the parking lot of their headquarters Friday.
According to police, 41-year-old Christopher Moore came into the parking lot, set fire to a police vehicle and assaulted an officer.
Three officers responded and fired their weapons. Moore was shot and pronounced dead at the scene, Fox 8 reports.
The Greensboro PD held a press conference on the incident Monday, WXII reports.
Police Chief Brian James said just after 3 p.m. on Friday Christopher Moore entered the employee parking lot at the main police station and lit a marked police car on fire. James said that man attacked Officer Chavez who was entering the building. The chief said Moore hit that officer in the face and head before placing his arms around the officers neck. During the fight, Police said Moore tried to get that officers gun. That’s when James said two other officers heard the attack and found the officer who was being attacked by Moore and ultimately shot and killed Moore. Police said "the officers were able to stop the deadly assault."
“The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation will conduct the investigation into the incident. That is the criminal investigation. The Greensboro Police Department's Professional Standards Division is conducting an internal investigation to determine whether the Greensboro Police Department policies were followed,” he said.
