A Wilson (OK) Police Department officer was shot twice in the chest at point blank range over the weekend. His ballistic vest stopped the rounds.
Officer Tyler Skinner was patrolling an area near a football field around 3:30 a.m. Sunday when he noticed a white male wearing dark clothing and stopped to speak with the individual.
The suspect pulled out a weapon and fired, striking Officer Skinner in the vest twice, the Wilson Police Department reported on social media. The officer returned fire, but the gunman fled from the area and multiple agencies have been assisting in trying to locate the shooter.
Chief Kevin Coley said Skinner is doing well.
The City of Wilson is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who shot the officer.
