UT Trooper Stops Wrong-Way Driver with Patrol Vehicle

The SUV attempted to swerve around the patrol car. The trooper used the front of his car to impact the driver’s side of the SUV, causing it to come to a stop.

The Utah Highway Patrol released dashcam video Wednesday showing when Trooper Devin Henson used his patrol car to stop a wrong-way driver on Interstate 15 earlier this week.

Troopers responded to the area to stop the dangerous vehicle before it could hit any other motorists, a highway patrol social media post said of the Feb. 20 incident. The SUV attempted to swerve around the patrol car. The trooper used the front of his car to impact the driver’s side of the SUV, causing it to come to a stop.

Henson received minor injuries in the crash and was treated and released from a local hospital. The driver of the wrong way vehicle was treated at the scene and arrested and booked into jail for suspicion of DUI.

“Trooper Henson’s quick actions and bravery no doubt saved lives this morning, this is just one of the many selfless acts our Troopers make every day,” the Utah Highway Patrol post stated. “This is the 29th wrong way vehicle UHP troopers have stopped in 2022. Last year Troopers located 158 wrong way drivers.”
