On February 10, 2006, DeNooyer Chevrolet, in conjunction with Country 107.7 WGNA and area law enforcement officers, sponsored the 2nd annual Blue Friday in remembrance of the anniversary of the death of Albany Police Lt. John Finn and all other law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

DeNooyer Chevrolet was the official location of the event which gathered more than 200 law enforcement officers from Upstate New York. WGNA listeners were also encouraged to stop by where they were able to “Make a Donation for a Carnation.” Each blue carnation was sold for a $5 donation that went to the Capital District Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) organization in memory of fallen officers. This organization is in place to assist the family of fallen officers during as well as after the ordeal to make sure that they are cared for and taken care of throughout the years.

Last year, Blue Friday was recognized as an “official” day by Mayor Jennings for the City of Albany, Mayor Stratton for the City of Schenectady, and was also formally recognized by the senate and assembly of New York state as an official day.

“We recognize the significant role that fallen police officers have played in keeping our communities safe. Through the sacrifice of their own lives, they are the true essence of heroism and we are honored to be a part of this event,” says Joel DeNooyer, president of DeNooyer Chevrolet.
