Texas Votes Overwhelmingly to Allow K-9s to Retire with Handlers

Voters in Texas made history on Election Day, showing unprecedented bipartisanship for a change to the Texas Constitution with an estimated 94 percent of voters supporting Proposition 10, an amendment that will allow retiring K-9s to be adopted by their handler.

According to KSAT-TV , K-9s were previously subject to adoption by public auction, which created the possibility that handlers could be outbid and lose their on- and off-duty partners.

Opponents to the change said that it would affect state revenue, and argument that clearly fell on deaf ears when voters submitted their ballots.
