Tennessee Motorcycle Deputy on Life Support After Crash

A Shelby County (Tennessee) Sheriff's Office (SCSO) motorcycle deputy is fighting for his life after being involved in a crash in Lakeland Tuesday morning, according to SCSO.

SCSO Chief Deputy Anthony Buckner said that the deputy was on life support around 10 a.m., just hours after being involved in a crash. That motorcycle deputy was responding to a crash involving another motorcycle deputy at the time of the incident. In both crashes, Buckner said that a civilian driver pulled out in front of the deputy, causing the crash. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating both crashes, Fox 13 reports.

Buckner said that one of the deputies was in extremely critical condition and that the next two days would be "touch and go." The other deputy was not critically injured, and Buckner described that deputy's injuries as "bumps and bruises" but noted that nothing was broken; that deputy was released from the hospital just before 3 p.m. Tuesday.

"These two families received a knock on the door that no family of law enforcement wants to receive... For those families, there's a lot of terror, a lot of fear, and a lot of concern when they get that knock," Buckner said. 

The SCSO Chief Deputy praised the doctors at Regional One Health (ROH), where both deputies were rushed for treatment, but said that the best medicine these deputies could receive would be the prayers of the community.
