Suspect who Attacked TX Officers with Rifle Found Dead

A man who authorities say shot a person before "actively shooting at police" Saturday afternoon was later found dead, Round Rock police said .

Police initially responded to reports of an armed person near about 12:30 p.m. from a man who reported being shot multiple times outside of his home and said the shooter might be a neighbor, Police Chief Allen Banks said. 

No other victims were reported, according to the Austin American-Statesman .

The police received a report that the shooter was wearing a “black trench coat and carrying an AK-style rifle,” and a Fire Department battalion chief reported at 12:43 p.m. seeing a subject in camouflage clothing hop a fence at Behrens Ranch.

Multiple area, state, and federal agencies responded to the situation.

The gunman shot at police when they arrived, and he retreated into the woods, Banks said. The man, who was wearing body armor, also shot at an armored vehicle that arrived, and officers returned fire again, Banks said. 

The man was later found dead in the woods. Cause of death has not been determined.
