Supreme Court Won't Hear 9/11 Families Appeal

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from the some of the families of 9/11 victims over the treatment of remains from unidentified victims of the terrorist attacks, CNN reports.

New York City officials had transported World Trade Center debris to a landfill. Here's an excerpt:

Family members claimed about 223,000 tons of the material was never screened -- or wasn't screened properly -- and a landfill is not a proper resting place for possible victims of the worst domestic terror attack in U.S. history.

No remains have been uncovered or yet identified for about 1,100 of the 2,752 people killed at the site on Sept. 11, 2001.
