SHOT Show 2011: Danner Brings Descender Tactical Boots

Danner's twin law enforcement offerings at SHOT Show 2011 lead off with the Descender, a new line of tactical footwear designed specifically for vertical insertion.

The Descender uses a new outsole design the company says gives tactical operators controlled and reliable arresting during fast roping.

The Descender's outsole utilizes Vibram's abrasion-resistant V-4 compound in the medial arch to aid in the operator arresting oneself during descent. The durable and low-oil content Nubuc leather and breathable 1000D spacer mesh-nylon upper keep the rope clean. The Descender also provides a co-molded midsole that offers impact, puncture and lesion resistance.

"The Descender is a boot designed and developed to operate in variable and unpredictable environments," according to Drew Linth, Danner's senior development manager. "It's all in the little details — simplicity, stability, control, comfort, protection and traction."

The Descender arives in a 4.5- or 8-inch style and is available with GORE-TEX lining, or a breathable, moisture-wicking mesh lining for warmer climes. Color options include canteen green or black, and sizes range from men's half sizes 4-12 and whole sizes 13-16D; or half sizes 7-12, whole sizes 13 and 14EE.

The suggested retail price for the Descender ranges from $179.95 for the 4.5-inch to $199.95 for the 8-inch style. The Descender will ship in July.
