According to NBC Bay Area, officers on foot patrol regularly visit with proprietors in their sectors to discuss neighborhood problems—such as homelessness and drug use—and seek solutions together.
A salesperson at a local sunglass shop told the news station that the increase in foot patrols have diminished the possibility of "grab-and-go" thefts.
Officer Steve Hom told NBC Bay Area that the city's Northern Station—which patrols a host of mixed commercial and residential neighborhoods (including the tourist destinations of Castro, Union Square, and the historic Fillmore District)—has 21 officers assigned to the foot patrol program.
Workers at local businesses say that the presence of those officers is making a difference in quality of life issues.
