A San Diego police officer was mortally wounded in a barrage of gunfire Wednesday night when he and other officers kicked down a door inside a southeastern San Diego apartment after an hours-long SWAT standoff.
Police identified the slain officer as Christopher Wilson, a 17-year patrol officer and field trainer in the Southeast Division. San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders described Wilson to the San Diego Union-Tribune as "popular, funny, extremely bright and a consummate professional." Other officers often referred to him as "good cover," because he always had their backs.
