The Senate has passed H.R. 218, the “Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act,” that will allow qualified current and retired police officers to legally carry a concealed weapon in any of the 50 states.
Originally drafted in 1992, H.R. 218 has been put to a vote many times, often as part of another bill. It passed in the House last month.
The Bush administration has said that President George W. Bush plans to sign the bill into law.
