The parents of children who have become victims in Chicago's increasingly violent string of gang murders spoke out against West Side gang members who say they are themselves victims of police mistreatment, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The parents' press conference came today, after the gang members publicly criticized Chicago PD's Superintendent Jody Weis, who met with them two weeks ago with otehr law enforcement agencies and told them to control violent members of face police action.
The gang members said they and other gang members were disrespected by police with the surprise meeting and that their constitutional rights were violated.
"They say their constitutional rights are being violated. What about my son's constitutional rights?" the Tribune quoted one parent as saying. "And all of the young people in this city who don't have the right to go to school, live a life, or just even breathe anymore because they're all buried in cemeteries. How dare they?"
