Oprah Buys Billboard Ads Demanding Arrest of Officers Involved in Breonna Taylor Shooting

Oprah Winfrey's O Magazine has purchased advertising space on 26 billboards in Louisville to demand the arrest and prosecution of the Louisville officers involved in the March 13 fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor.

Taylor was shot and killed by officers serving a "no-knock" drug warrant. Her boyfriend reportedly opened fire on the plainclothes officers believing they were home invaders. Taylor, an ER technician who briefly served as an EMT, was killed in the incident. The warrant was to search for a suspect who did not live there and no drugs were found inside Taylor’s home.

The officers involved in Taylor’s death—Detective Brett Hankison, Sergeant Jonathan Mattingly and Detective Myles Cosgrove—have not been charged. Hankison was fired. Mattingly and Cosgrove were placed on administrative leave.

Winfrey’s billboards, which began going up on Thursday and are scheduled to all be in place by Monday, read: “Demand that the police involved in killing Breonna Taylor be arrested and charged. Visit UntilFreedom.com,” Yahoo News reports. Untilfreedom.com is the URL for a group that has organized protests over the Taylor shooting.

Winfrey’s billboards f eature a photo of Taylor that was used for the cover of the September issue of O magazine. The September cover marks the first time anyone other than Oprah has appeared on the cover of the magazine.
