Off-Duty MA Officer Killed After Hitting Tractor-Trailer

An off-duty Massachusetts police officer was killed after crashing into the back of a tractor-trailer in the breakdown lane of a highway, reports WCVB .

Massachusetts State Police said Officer Michael Lee, 38, was heading southbound on Interstate 395 when he crashed into the truck parked in the breakdown lane just after 1 a.m. Saturday. The Webster (FL) Police Department officer was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Michael had a way of bringing a smile to everyone's face the moment he encountered them," his department posted on the Webster (FL) Police Department Facebook page . "He was an outstanding officer, SWAT operator, investigator, and person. He will be missed by not only his colleagues in law enforcement, but by the community he served."
