Two of Gelman's victims said they were caught off-guard, when he carjacked them. Arthur DiCrescento, 60, was double-parked on E. 24th St. when Gelman flung open the door of his 1995 Pontiac Bonneville and repeatedly stabbed him in the chest.
Sheldon Pottinger was waiting inside his black 2001 Nissan Maxima, when a man approached and yelled, "Motherf-----, get out of the car." The man began stabbing Pottinger, who scrambled to escape through the passenger door, while the vehicle was in motion.
