Nation to “Ramp Up Security” to Thwart Possible al-Quaida Plot

Intelligence indicating that al-Quaida could launch terrorist attacks to disrupt the upcoming presidential election has prompted the United States to bolster security measures.

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge says the decision was based on multiple “credible” reports as well as the attack in Spain before their election, and arrests in England, Jordan, and Italy.

White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan says the Department of Homeland Security is currently working to “ramp up security,” but will not adjust its color-coded terror alert status.
