Mont. Militia Leader who Fired on Deputies Remains at Large

Fugitive militia leader David Burgert remained at large Thursday, as law enforcement personnel scaled back their search for the former Marine who had planned a gunfight with Missoula County Sheriff's deputies.

Burgett reportedly exchanged fire with sheriff's deputies along a logging trail on Sunday, NBC reports .

Burgett, a 47-year-old parolee, is believed to be hiding in the heavily forcested mountains of western Montana near the Idaho border.

Burgett led an anti-government militia group called Project 7 that was broken up by federal authories in the last decade. He served eight years in federal prison on weapons charges.
