Kent said his officers worked 24 hours in the immediate aftermath of the disaster, many of them responding in damaged vehicles. The agency is also borrowing vehicles from other departments to substitute for the ones that are too damaged to drive.
The chief praised the Kentucky State Police (KSP) for their immediate response and thanked the Paducah Police Department and Murray Police Department for their support patrolling the town.
Kent said communications, especially interoperability between different first responders, has been one of the major challenges for police in the devastated town.
The KSP communications branch is helping local first responders with equipment and assets. "They are bringing us radios that allow all of the first responders to communicate," Kent said.
