Maryland Tactical Unit Conducted 195 Raids In Six Months

The Prince George's County Police Department's SWAT unit conducted 195 tactical entries in the final six months of 2009, an average of more than one a day, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Of the 195 entries, 105 involved crimes deemed nonserious felonies and misdemeanors.

In nearby Baltimore, the city's SWAT unit conducted 84 such raids during the same period.

The statistics were acquired by the newspaper via a public information act request with the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention. State lawmakers began requiring agencies to submit the data after a mayor of Berwyn Heights was hancuffed by sheriff's deputies who burst into his home with automatic weapons and shot his two dogs.
