The Forest Heights (MD) Police Department reports that one of its K-9s died after a medical emergency Sunday afternoon. Temperatures were in the mid-90s at the time.
Maryland K-9 Dies After Medical Emergency During Search
K-9 Kuno was conducting a search of a school building looking for a burglar when he showed signs of heat stroke. Kuno’s handler reportedly took him back to his vehicle and tried to hydrate him, but Kuno collapsed.

K-9 Kuno of the Forest Heights (MD) Police Department died Sunday after suffering a medical emergency during a search.

On Facebook, the Forest Heights PD said K-9 Kuno succumbed to the medical crisis while assisting the Prince George’s County Police Department, on a call for service.
“K9 Kuno is the original, longest-standing K9 with the Forest Heights Police Department, who worked alongside his handler A/Sgt. Grooms, and we thank him for his loyalty and service,” the department said.
