Kimber has begun shipping its Solo 9mm micro-compact pistol to nearly 2,000 Kimber dealers in the U.S., the company announced.
The Solo pistols are 17 ounces and 5.5 inches long with ergonomics borrowed from 1911 pistols and 3-dot sights. The Standard Solo arrives with a stainless steel slide and barrel, machined aluminum frame, ambidextrous thumb safety, removable grips and ambidextrous magazine release button.
The Solo trigger is a single action striker-fired design with an even and smooth pull that breaks clean at seven pounds. Frame and slide edges are rounded and blended, so they don't snag on clothing or holsters. Slide serrations are deep for a secure grip, and the magazine well is beveled for quick and positive loading. Solo sights are steel and securely mounted in dovetails machined into the slide for additional durability.
Two models are currently offered, differing only in color of the finish. The Solo Carry frame and small parts are matte black, while the Solo Carry Stainless frame and small parts are satin silver. All Solo frames wear KimPro II, a finish that is self-lubricating and extremely resistant to salt and the elements. Magazine capacity is six rounds; an extended eight-round magazine will soon be available.
Solo pistols will retail for $725.
