Gunman Kills 7, Wounds 3 at Calif. College

A former student opened fire in a classroom at a small independent university in Oakland Monday morning, killing seven and wounding three others.

The gunman was taken into custody by police in the parking lot of a shopping mall near Oikos University, KTVU reports. SWAT teams searched the school for more victims and other possible suspects.

For about an hour after the shooting, authorities believed the shooter might still be on campus. They now believe the shooter, who is reported to be a former student in his 40s, acted alone.

Oikos University offers classes in theology, music and nursing.
