Florida Police Fatally Shoot Man After SWAT Standoff

A man who was holding a woman hostage was shot and killed by an officer with the Davie (FL) Police Department following an hours-long standoff.

"As we negotiated with the individual inside the house, it was brought to our attention that he was not alone, that there was a female in there that we believed was being held against her will," Davie Police Chief Dale Engle said at a briefing.

When the negotiations didn’t resolve the issue, Engle said, "one of our officers discharged his weapon."

According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel , the man has not yet been identified and it remains unclear what relationship he had with the woman.
