Fla. Deputy Finds $700K In Cocaine

A Broward (Fla.) Sheriff's Office marine patrol deputy spotted $700,000 worth of cocaine floating off the waters of Dania Beach on Wednesday while on routine patrol.

Deputy James "Brad" Lemieux spotted a burlap bag floating in the ocean about a mile offshore that resembled a trunk because of its rectangular shape. The bag was stuffed with 25 one-kilo packages that tested positive for cocaine.

"Our marine patrol is vigilant," Broward Sheriff Scott Israel said. "They are reminded all the time that narcotic trafficking is still prevalent."

Deputy Lemieux serves as the Marine Unit's manatee protection patrol deputy. The unit patrols county waterways, enforces marine laws, investigates boating accidents and related crime scenes, and promotes education and safety.
