Fla. Capt. Sentenced As Part of Drug Trafficking Organization

A federal judge sentenced a former Opa-Locka (Fla.) PD police captain to more than seven years in federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking operation.

Arthur Balom, 46, of Miramar, had pleaded guilty to trafficking of cocaine, ecstasy, and oxycodone. U.S. District Judge Joan A. Lenard senteced Balom on Jan. 31, according to the FBI.

Balom, who was known as "Main Man" or "Unc," was part of an organization that operated out of an apartment complex known as "The Back Blues." As a captain with the agency, Balom gave the organization information about police activity in the area, directed officers to leave the area, and helped associates when they came into contact with law enforcement.

FBI agents provided Balom a notebook containing photographs of various suspects in an armed robbery. The day after speaking with the agents, Balom met with one suspect and showed him the notebook. Balom also provided four ballistic vests to members of the organization.
