Draeger has announced the release of the Interlock 7000 breath alcohol ignition interlock device. The culmination of more than seven years of development, the Interlock 7000 incorporates new technologies to help prevent people from driving under the influence of alcohol. It can be installed in any type of vehicle, including motorcycles.

"The Draeger Interlock 7000 is designed to improve the experience for both the interlock users and the authorities who monitor them," says Michael Reinhart, president of Draeger Safety Diagnostics Inc. "It enables people who are required to have an ignition interlock device to maintain their driving privileges so they can move on with their lives. With one of the fastest warmup times in the industry and simple operation, the Interlock 7000 makes testing as fast, easy, and discreet as possible. Additionally, the Interlock 7000 incorporates advanced communication capabilities and new technologies that help identify and alert the monitoring authority of potential non-compliance."

To ensure that a sober driver is behind the wheel, the Interlock 7000 incorporates an intelligent camera module that can detect a change in drivers between the initial test and subsequent driving. If a change is detected, an additional breath sample is required. The device captures images so authorities can verify who provided each sample.

The Draeger Interlock 7000 also has the ability to identify mouth alcohol in breath samples, in accordance with OIML R-126 standards. Corresponding breath tests are specially marked on the reports, making them easier to see at a glance.

Draeger's D-Sync option incorporates a GPS/GPRS module for advanced reporting capabilities. It gives authorities access to all interlock-related data at any time and can retrieve the most recent data and provide an automatic download and notification in the event of a reportable violation.

D-Safe, Draeger's dedicated reporting software, provides a complete user history – both data and images – that can be accessed anywhere, anytime, via a web portal. Data such as event logs, images, GPS coordinates and violations is synchronized with database information during upload at the interlock user's scheduled appointment or automatically with D-Sync.

To ensure data security, all information in the Interlock 7000 and the optional modules is encrypted. This applies to the entire flow of data between the device and the control box, any installed modules and D-Safe.

Draeger says the Interlock 7000 is backed by an extensive network of service centers with qualified technicians who support interlock users every step of the way. They can install the device in any type of motorized vehicle, including motorcycles, depending on state regulations. During each service center visit, a technician will re-calibrate the device to ensure precise measurement and optimal functionality. In addition, expert advice is available 24/7 through Draeger's service hotline or website.
