Citing Budgetary Concerns, Ohio Department to Disband K-9 Unit

The Miami Township (OH) Police Department has announced its intention to disband the agency's K-9 unit in order to redirect funding and put more officers on the street.

The unit's only K-9—an 8-year-old Belgian Malinois named Coron—is reaching retirement age and the unit's vehicle requires extensive maintenance, according to the Dayton Daily News .

Coron will be sold to his longtime handler for one dollar.
