California Snipers End Mother's Day Stand-off With Suicidal Son

Contra Costa County Sheriff SWAT officers ended a Mother's Day standoff involving a suicidal son who held a gun to his mother's head by shooting the man, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

The slain man, 20-year-old Isai Villatoro, had a history of mental illness and drug use. He had turned a gun on his mother while officers attempted to negotiate with him.

Villatoro was wanted on a no-bail warrant for violating probation from a grand theft conviction, and made it clear to officers throughout the standoff that he was unwilling to return to jail, according to the report.
